Shiki no Matsuri is a private-label Junmai Ginjo made entirely from specially cultivated Koshihikari rice grown in Shiki City, Saitama. Tokuo Yamazaki, fourth-generation owner of the Misakiya sake shop, took part in the brewing in Yamagata himself, wanting to celebrate his hometown through sake, and travelled Japan to refine the idea before perfecting it. The handwritten characters on the label are by his daughter, then eight years old. In the glass it shows a mild aroma and a gentle sweetness of rice, balanced by soft acidity.

About the brewery

Shuho Shuzojo was founded in 1890 by Takeda Shogoro at Yambe-machi, at the foot of the Zao range north-east of Yamagata City. The brewery works by hand with the clear water of the mountain foot and aims for sake with a character of its own. It is notably willing to brew with newly bred rice varieties to suit contemporary palates.
