A distinctive 'white umeshu': top-quality plums are steeped in sake brewed by Miinokotobuki and blended with a lactic acid drink. The aroma recalls fruit-flavoured milk, and the palate is tangy and refreshingly sweet, with the umeshu character arriving at the end. Serve on the rocks or with soda, where its milky white colour really shows; garnish with fruit or edible flowers for a party drink.
About the brewery
Mii no Kotobuki brews in Mii District, Fukuoka, on the Chikugo Plain beside the Koishiwara River. It describes itself as a ginjo house: more than ninety per cent of its output is premium tokutei meishoshu, most of it junmai grades. The business began as a rice merchant before moving into brewing.
