Houraisen WA first fills the mouth with the sweetness of rice, then finishes with a refreshing acidity, combining softness and crispness in one glass. Notes of kiwi, red grape and mixed berries linger on the finish. Made from local rice polished to 50%, it is an easy, versatile sake that goes well with all kinds of snacks, which makes it a fine choice for a relaxed treat at home. It tastes good chilled, at room temperature or lukewarm, and is particularly good with a tomato salad.

About the brewery

Sekiya Jozo was founded in 1864 at Taguchi in Shitara, deep in the Okumikawa hills of Aichi. Its philosophy, wajo ryoshu, holds that good sake is made by people working in harmony, and it mechanises where that helps while keeping the decisive stages by hand. Alongside the original kura it runs a premium brewhouse opened in 2004 and its own farming division growing rice for brewing.
